I’m Wenqian Zhang, a 4th-year undergraduate Electrical Engineering student at University of California, San Diego . I'm currently working as a research assistant in Prof. Xinyu Zhang's Lab , where I focus on wireless sensing and communication, systems and FPGA implementation, and machine learning.

Research projects

  • Jul. 2025 – Feb. 2026FlowForm: Scalable Passive Metasurface Networking System
    • Designed and implemented a multi-hop passive metasurface network to extend mmWave transmission coverage in NLoS and obstacle-rich environments.
    • Integrated SDR platforms and FPGA hardware for real-world validation; achieved 10–15 dB RSS gain in dead zones.
  • Apr. 2025 – PresentRayNet: Distributed mmWave SDR Network (FPGA upgrades)
    • Designed FPGA modules (Verilog) for CIR estimation and carrier frequency offset (CFO) estimation/compensation.
    • Validated antenna patterns via experimental measurement; improved SNR and robustness.
  • Apr. 2025 – Jul. 2025MetaPolar: Passive mmWave Radar-Readable Metasurface for Sensing
    • Designed passive backscattering tags for robust wireless sensing and reflection control.
    • Evaluated indoor/outdoor performance; achieved average 17 dB RSS gain in cross-polarized reflections.
